From Challenges to Chilis: Embracing Growth, Community, and Balance

This past year has been a whirlwind of change, growth, and reflection. As I look back on my journey, I see a tapestry woven with resilience, strategy, and the incredible connections I’ve built along the way. From leaving a high-paying IT consulting career to publishing books, opening my Big Frog Custom T-Shirts & More franchise in Albuquerque, and finding new ways to show up for my family, this season of my life has been both exhilarating and humbling.

Let’s be real—navigating big transitions isn’t easy. There’s a lot happening in my world right now. Building a new business, adjusting to a new normal, and working hard to maintain balance between my professional ambitions and personal priorities have tested my limits. Yet, every challenge has also revealed an opportunity to grow, learn, and rediscover what’s truly important.

Building a Business, Building Community

Opening a Big Frog franchise has been a dream come true. Big Frog isn’t just about custom T-shirts; it’s about celebrating milestones, building team spirit, and helping people tell their stories through personalized apparel. From family reunions and community events to small business branding, I love being part of moments that matter to my customers. There’s something so special about seeing someone’s eyes light up when they receive a shirt that captures a memory or represents their brand.

What excites me most about this venture is how it combines creativity, community, and entrepreneurship. I’m passionate about creating experiences and connections that last long after the ink dries. And the best part? This isn’t just about business; it’s about Albuquerque. I’m here to serve my community and grow with it.

Picture me standing next to one of our T-shirts featuring a frog grabbing chilis with the slogan, “Grab life by the chilis” and “Red and Green.” Because in New Mexico, we don’t just love our chilis—we live them. Red or green? I’ll take both!

Challenges, Growth, and Finding Balance

But let’s not sugarcoat it: running a business is hard work. There are moments when it feels like there’s not enough time in the day to do everything I want to accomplish. And then there’s the emotional toll of trying to balance work and family while navigating personal transitions. As a mom, my daughter is my anchor, and making time for her—even in the busiest seasons—is my top priority. It’s easy to get consumed by the demands of entrepreneurship, but I’ve learned the hard way that balance isn’t optional; it’s essential.

Self-care has been another key lesson. Whether it’s taking a morning walk, reading a book, or simply pausing to breathe, I’ve found that small moments of care can make a big difference. I’ve also realized the importance of giving myself grace. Life doesn’t have to be perfect to be meaningful, and progress doesn’t have to be linear. I’m learning to celebrate the little wins along the way.

Resilience and Reinvention

When I think about what has carried me through this season, three qualities stand out: resilience, strategic thinking, and the ability to connect. Resilience has been my rock. From career changes to personal challenges, it’s what allows me to bounce back, refocus, and keep moving forward. Strategic thinking, shaped by my years in IT consulting, has helped me prioritize, adapt, and stay intentional in my decisions. And connection—whether it’s with customers, team members, or loved ones—has been my source of strength and inspiration.

For those who might be starting their own journey, here’s my advice:

  1. Resilience: Embrace challenges as opportunities to grow. Surround yourself with people who lift you up and remind you of your strength.
  2. Strategic Thinking: Plan with purpose but stay flexible. Life rarely goes according to plan, and that’s okay.
  3. Connection: Build meaningful relationships. Show up authentically, listen deeply, and cherish the communities you are a member.

Looking Ahead

As I continue to navigate this season of change, I’m reminded that growth often comes from discomfort. There are big dreams on the horizon, including my next book, tentatively titled From Frameworks to Fabric. It’s a project that combines my love for storytelling, strategy, and creativity—a reflection of the journey I’m on and the lessons I’ve learned along the way.

I’m also learning to embrace the beauty of reinvention. Sometimes, life requires us to let go of what was to make room for what could be. It’s not always easy, but I believe it’s worth it. Whether you’re launching a business, pursuing a passion, or simply taking the next step in your journey, remember it’s okay to evolve. Growth is a process, not a destination.

Gratitude and Reflection

Through all the change, I’m deeply grateful for the people who have supported me. My family, friends, team, and community have been my foundation. Thank you for believing in me, cheering me on, and reminding me of what’s possible. Your support means more than words can express.

To anyone else navigating change, I want you to know you’re not alone. Life can be messy, unpredictable, and challenging, but it can also be beautiful, rewarding, and full of possibility. Trust yourself, lean on your strengths, and never stop dreaming.

Here’s to growth, connection, and the courage to embrace what’s next. Grab both the red and the green chilis!
