The direct to garment dying
process is a hardy one. You can wash your t-shirts or
customized garments any way you like. Because the
design has bonded to the item, there is no
need to:
Once the garment dye is in your
garment, it will NOT come out. Your design will NOT
fade, peel or crack like iron-on transfers.
If you purchased a white
garment, you can even use a light bleach to wash your
clothing. Your custom design will last longer than the
t-shirt itself.
Colored Shirts:
We do recommend that
if you do purchase a colored shirt to wash it on cold just
to keep the color of the t-shirt vibrant.
Shrinking: Depending on the style of t-shirt chosen, there could be
some shrinking of the garment. The standard
cotton t-shirt is pre-shrunk, however some of the other
styles such as sports shirts and tank tops tend to shrink
vertically by an inch. Ask any one of the Big Frog
designers for more information. To prevent shrinkage,
line dry the item or dry clean.
Pilling: 100% cotton does tend to pill (acquire tiny
lint beads) after numerous washes. This pilling can
cause the design to look faded or washed out. To
prevent pilling try the following:
- Before laundering, turn the
garment inside out.
- Use the gentle cycle which has a
slower agitation and shorter wash
cycle.
- Use liquid detergent or allow
powdered detergent to dissolve
completely before adding garments.
- Line dry woven fabrics. Dry
knitted garments on a flat surface.
If using the dryer, remove as soon
as possible to lessen abrasion from
other fabrics.
Once pilling has occurred, a sweater
shaver works great to remove the pills.
